Balancing Children and Business: My Journey as a Mompreneur

Angie of Half Baked Cookies

Hello! I’m Angie, the proud creator behind Half Baked Cookies. It’s a joy to have you here with me as I share a glimpse into my life and how I’ve learned to balance the beautiful chaos of motherhood with the demands of running two thriving businesses.

From baking delicious cookies to managing bustling stores, life can get pretty busy around here, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. Let me take you on a journey through my world, where flour, sugar, and giggles blend seamlessly into a unique recipe for success.

A Pinch of Chaos, a Spoonful of Love: Motherhood First

As “Half Baked” became a household name, I was first and foremost Mom to my three amazing kids: Sage, Sunny, and Beau. Balancing their needs with the demands of my businesses is my top priority. After all, they are my biggest supporters, my motivation, and the reason behind everything I do.

The Morning Rush

Our days usually start with a whirlwind of activity. Breakfasts, lunches, bus pick-up, diaper changes, and all the lovely unpredictability that comes with raising little ones. But it’s also the perfect time for bonding – sharing laughs (and cries) over breakfast or sneakily tasting cookie dough while no one’s looking (shh, don’t tell!).

Finding My Work-Life Rhythm

Once my kids are settled into their routines for the day, I step into my role as a business owner. “Half Baked Cafe” and “Half Baked Cookies” have become beloved parts of our community, and I’m proud of that. But it takes careful planning and teamwork to keep things running smoothly.

The Support of My Amazing Team

Behind every successful entrepreneur is an incredible team. My staff at both locations are like family to me. Their dedication allows me to strike that delicate balance between motherhood and running two businesses. They’re the ones who keep the ovens warm, the coffee brewing, and the smiles on our customers’ faces.

Flexibility is Key

Balance is a myth! I’ve yet to have a day when the house is spotless, I’m looking and feeling my best (and there’s no stains on my clothes), my kids are neatly dressed, and the shops are running flawlessly all at once. But, I do my best to get at least a couple right. Flexibility is my secret weapon in this juggling act. I’ve learned to adapt to unexpected situations, whether it’s a sick child needing extra cuddles or a broken coffee maker at the shop. Being adaptable and open to change is crucial.

The Power of Prioritization

As a mompreneur, I’ve mastered the art of prioritization. I focus on the most important tasks and delegate where necessary. I’ve also learned that it’s okay to ask for help when I need it, whether from my husband, Chris, family, or especially my awesome managers, Casey and Cindy.

Embracing Imperfection

Let’s face it; life is messy. Some days, the cookies are perfect, and everyone’s happy. Other days, well, not so much. But that’s okay. I’ve learned to embrace imperfection, both in my baking and in motherhood. It’s what makes life beautifully human.

Balancing children and business as a mother isn’t always easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding. My children inspire me every day to keep reaching for my dreams. And in return, I’m teaching them the value of hard work, creativity, and the importance of balancing responsibilities.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. Remember, whether you’re a fellow mom, entrepreneur, or simply someone seeking footing in your life, you’ve got this. Cherish the moments, savor the cookies, and keep dreaming big. After all, life is a little sweeter with a cookie in your hand.

Until next time,
Angie
